What is SSL security?

SSL stands for "Secure Socket Layer."

It is a standard that is used to transfer information securely across the Internet. SSL will enable your customers' browsers to connect to your website and and complete transactions like credit card transactions to be done securely.

Please note that SSL does not include software to process credit card transactions. Although you can securely receive credit card information through SSL, actual processing of the credit card will require a "Merchant Account" from an accredited financial institution or PayPal.

If you are creating a web-based form where you want the visitor to enter data and submit the form to the web server for processing, you may want to use SSL (secure socket layer) encryption service. This is especially true if you are entering credit card numbers or other sensitive information.

E-commerce websites typically need an SSL certificate installed on their server to ensure that client data is secure.

In order to have SSL functionality on your website, we need to purchase a certificate and install it on your server.

Fee: $200/year (Typically purchased in 2-year blocks)

Note 1: To have an SSL certificate, you will need to enhance your hosting account with a unique IP address or it won't work.

Note 2: An even higher level of security can be attained with a more costly SSL certificate but it's rarely used for small businesses.
